The PSKOOK Flint and Steel Kit is a versatile fire starter survival tool, suitable for use by scouts or outdoor explorers during training and teaching sessions. This kit does not contain charcloth due to safety concerns during transportation, but a pure cotton cloth is included to help you make your own.

To use the kit, place a small piece of char cloth on top of the flint. Striking the steel at a 30-degree angle should create one or two sparks that land on the char cloth, causing it to glow red. It can be challenging to see the glowing edges in bright sunlight, so it's important to wait and gently blow on the cloth until you see a glowing crescent or nothing. Once the char cloth is glowing, you'll need to gather firewood, kindling, and tinder to start the fire. Char cloth is especially useful in damp weather when tinder is more difficult to ignite.

To make char cloth, start by punching a hole in the lid of a tin or wrapping the top with aluminum foil if the tin doesn't have a lid. Cut 100% cotton fabric, such as an old T-shirt or denim, into 2-inch squares and place them in the tin. Place the tin in a calm fire or on a bed of embers, allowing the fabric to char without burning. Once the smoking stops, wait for the tin to cool before removing the lid and inspecting the char cloth. If the cloth is completely black, soft, and not too fragile, it's ready to use as a fire starter.
